Research On The Use Of Characters Of Appellation In Naxi Dongba Scripture

Naxi Dongba character is called as “lived stone” of the primal character, which is mainly used by Naxi religious folk for writing Naxi Dongba Scripture. Researchers at home and aborad have already noticed this character and made a large number of research on it, and have made remarkable achievements.Appellation is a component of the common noun. It is a must in any language communication, it is closely related to our daily life, so we ought to attach great importance to it, but the special research on the use of characters of appellation is very few. The special research on the use of characters of appellation in Naxi Dongba Scripture is also limited, so the special study of appellation becomes especially important for us. Based on the previous research, this article takes the <Annotated collection of Naxi Dongba Scripture> as main research material, adopts expression as theoretical framework, makes a muti-angle study of the use of characters of appellation in Naxi Dongba Scripture, so as to explore the evolving rules and developing traces of the use of characters of appellation. This paper is consisted of five chapters in all.Chapter one: Introduction. Firstly, it talks about the history and present situation of Dongba character and Dongba appellation in Naxi Dongba Scripture. Secondly, it analyses the research significance and methods. Thridly, it introduces the concept of appellation in Naxi Dongba Scripture, meanwhile it gives an explanation of relavant materials and quotation’s formats.Chapter two: General picture of appellation in Naxi Dongba Scripture. This chapter describes the phonetic and vocabulary characteristics of the relative appellations and social appellations that we collected. The discussion of the vocabulary includes words meaning and words structure type.Chapter three: Research on the use of characters of relative appellations in Naxi Dongba Scripture. This chapter makes a synchronic and diachronic study of the relative appellations we collected. Synchronic study includes three ways of expression: ideographical expression, phonetic expression, ideographical and phonetic combination expression. Diachronic study includes three aspects: the development of expression, selected characters, the figure of characters.Chapter four: Research on the use of characters of social appellations in Naxi Dongba Scripture. This chapter makes a synchronic and diachronic study of the social appellations we collected. Synchronic study includes three ways of expression: ideographical expression, phonetic expression, ideographical and phonetic combination expression. Diachronic study includes three aspects: the development of expression, selected characters, the figure of characters.Chapter five: Conclusion. Firstly, it makes a relevant discussion. On the one hand, it gives an explanation of the use of characters in other aspects; on the other hand, it makes a further study of some specific phenomena about the the use of characters, such as fake corresponding phenomenon, redundant phonetic symbol phenomenon, reasonable and unreasonable phenomenon, comparative ideographical phenomenon and so on. Secondly, based on the reserach of chapter 2-4, this chapter summarizes the whole article, makes a comparative analysis of the use of characters between relative appellations and social appellations.
