Translation Report Of The Multi-cultures Of Northwestern Ethnic Minorities And China’s Western Development Drive(Section 3,Chapter Ⅱ)

The Multi-Cultures of Northwestern Ethnic Minorities and China’s Western Development Drive deals with the multi-cultures of China’s northwestern ethnic minorities, and focuses on the exploration of their development and changes in a new situation of China’s western development drive, that is, the issues on the transformation to modernization and reconstruction of multi-cultures of China’s northwestern ethnic minorities. As it has no English version, it will be quite significant for the publicity of China’s cultures, especially the publicity of China’s ethnic culture, if a complete English translation is provided.The translator is assigned to translate the section 3, chapter 2 of the book, in which it talks about the education for ethnic minorities. This report describes the whole translating process and discusses the basic problems the translator encounters in the translating process. Under the guidance of Vermeer’s Skopos theory, this translating activity is conducted by following the characteristics of informative text,adopting the strategy of communicative translation with the supplement of semantic translation and focusing on the accurate and effective transmission of information. To achieve a successful communication with readers, the translator adopts different translating methods to deal with the translation issues. At the lexical level, the translator sums up some suggestions on the translation of the title of official documents, culturally-loaded terms and four-character phrase. At the sentential level,the translator discusses the translating techniques of serial verbs sentence, and puts forward that a translator should reconstruct the original sentence when the Chinese sentence is loose in order to make it well-knit in structure and clear in meaning. And at the textual level, the translator also logically reconstructs the original information and expresses it in a more acceptable way by adding linking words, omitting redundant information and adding necessary words.At last, the translator makes a conclusion and expects that this translating activitycan make a contribution to the successful publication of the source text and provide guidance and reference for the translation of such kind of text.
