This translation report is based on the related translation practice of the mathematics texts, a part of Science published by Dorling Kindersley Publishers(DK). The Skopos theory is employed as the assessment criteria in the whole translation process. This translation practice helps the author to gain knowledge of mathematics translation, and also provides valuable experience for translating popular science text in other areas.German Functional theory of translation defines translation as a purposeful behavior,which means the purpose and function of a text decide its translation methods.Translation should obey coherence rule and fidelity rule, and at the meantime, give importance to the needs of the receivers of target texts. This theory is important to the translation of popular science in mathematics.This report provides cases and analysis from the aspects of vocabularies and sentences to explore translation methods of popular science. In the aspect of vocabularies,the author tries to offer standard and exact translations of words in the subject of mathematics by various means. With respect to sentences, the author puts emphasis on the translation of tense, voice and complex structures. All of the translation methods discussed will provide useful information for translation practice in the future.A qualified popular science translator needs to have a good command of language skills and translation competence, to understand the popular science English text and to use appropriate translation theories to tackle problems. Popular science target texts should convey science facts in a coherent and faithful way. In addition, team members should communicate with each other adequately and make full use of various resources and open database to enhance translation cooperation.
