E-C Translation Strategy In Sino-foreign University Collaboration Agreements From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

With the rapid development of globalization, communication and exchange activities between China and other countries have become more and more frequent,and multinational corporations and international projects are increasing. At the same time, cooperation between Chinese and foreign universities on higher education is getting increasingly important. In order to carry out inter-university cooperation and make the exchange programs go smoothly, cooperation agreements between universities provide a guarantee and support for all the obligations and rights as well as other related aspects of both parties.The translation materials used in this report are the agreements signed by a Chinese University and five foreign universities. In accordance with the three rules of Skopos Theory, namely the skopos rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule, the author analyzed the materials from the perspective of diction, syntax and context. The agreements belong to legal texts which require specification of language, exactness of words, rigorous expressiveness and goal-oriented.In the translation practice, the author encounters the following difficulty: how to properly translate the professional vocabulary, long sentences, sentences with specific structures and the discourse structure. In the light of the skopos rule, literal translation and words conversion were used to translate the legal terms and educational management words; in terms of the sentence, the author used the method of division and combination based on the coherence rule; while in discourse translation, the author analyzed the text from the perspective of context. The author endeavors to make the target language simple and easy to understand, to represent the original text as much as possible, which can help to promote the cooperation and communication between both parties.Through the translation practice, the author learned a lot about how to applytheories to actual translation. The practice offers the writer a great opportunity to improve her translation ability. Hopefully, this translation report will be of some value for those who are going to translate texts of the similar type in the future.
