In recent years, with the development of university internationalization, colleges and universities at home and abroad have undertaken large amounts of productive collaboration. The number of university collaboration agreements signed by colleges and universities grows significantly, which results in plenty of translation work. A normal and rigorous agreement translation can assist both parties, clarify their rights and obligations in the process of collaboration and protect the lawful rights and interest of the parties involved. On the contrary, a less normative agreement translation or an agreement translation riddled with errors may cause miscommunications between the two parties, legal dispute and even heavy losses for both parties. Therefore, enough attention should be paid to the C-E translation of Sino-foreign agreements.In2013, the author took internship in the International Office of Central China Normal University for8months. One of the important tasks of the author was to translate various university collaboration agreements. The research the thesis conducted is based on translation practice of these agreements. From the perspective of the Skopostheory of German Functionalist Approach, the present thesis, taking the translation of universities collaboration agreements in the International Office of Central China Normal University as a case study, discusses the preparation, process and after-translation work, explores how Skopostheory can be applied to the present translation practice from the level of lexis, syntax and text, and summarizes the translation strategy and techniques of the agreements. The author hopes the present thesis can help us understand agreement translation better and provides references for translation practice of universities collaboration agreements in the future.
