The development of legal system construction promotes the progress of the world economy. Also,it encourages the development of authorized text translation research. As the most influential theory of the German functionalist school,Skopos Theory for translation advocates the use of operative and communicative methods to diversify translation methods, which is all a matter of a strong guiding role in translation practice.By expounding the concept and principles of Skopos Theory and analyzing the characteristics of legal translation, the applicability of Skopos Theory to legal translation is demonstrated. On this basis, this thesis is determined to carry out analysis and exploration of translation practice texts based on the Skopos Theory. This article first presents the specific content of the Skopos Theory of translation. It is combining the meanings of the three rules of Skopos Theory, namely, the Skopos rule, the coherence rule, and the fidelity rule.It explains the relative significance of using Skopos Theory to guide legal translation.Subsequently, this article takes Skopos Theory as a reference, combining the translator's legal text translation practice, and uses the Chinese translation of the US House of Representatives Act as an example to further confirm the rationality of Skopos Theory for legal translation. At the end of the article, from the vocabulary, sentence, and discourse levels, supplemented by specific examples,it explains how translators refer to lexical, text, and sentence-level problems in the process of translating legal documents from English to Chinese and how the Skopos Theory is used to select appropriate translation strategies and methods for translation practice.
