Translation Of The WTO Text From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

The thesis is a translation practice, which is the translation of Chapter Five Trade Negotiations taken from WTO World Annual Report 2014. All of WTO Annual Report are highly formal in terms of genre, which aim to release, interpret and summarize the tasks completed and the achievements made by WTO in the interest of all the WTO members. Seeing from the text category, the Annual Reports are regarded as informative text.The author examined the stylistic features of WTO text. Based on the Vermeer’s Skopos Theory, the author discussed the application of its three principles in WTO text translation. This paper explored methods and strategies on WTO text translation from two perspectives of lexical and syntactical structures. On the basis of the analysis, the thesis holds that it is feasible to translate the WTO Annual Report by using Skopos Theory Translation Principles. The Skopos Theory plays an active and effective role in the translation practices of informative texts.
