In recent years, the issue of climate change is becoming more and more serious, which has caused great impact on human society and natural environment.Against this background, people are increasingly concerned with how to solve this problem.“Adaptation” and “mitigation”,proposed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, are two basic strategies for addressing the issue of climate change. And some American scientists realize that adaptation measures must be taken to deal with the climate change now, whether or not mitigation measures are needed, and that adaptation measures will become even more important in the coming decades. In response to the request of the Congress, the America's Climate Choices(ACC)Panel on Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change produced the report Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change, which describes the challenges the United States faces in adapting to climate change, the efforts it makes and the major technology it needs. In order to make Chinese readers learn about the knowledge of climate adaptation, and thus benefit our country to better cope with climate change, the translator decided to translate Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change. The source text selected for this practical report composes of the seventh and the eighth chapters of Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change. The aforementioned two chapters focus on those major technologies concerning how to effectively promote adaptation to climate change. The source text is classified as sci-tech text,in which a large number of prepositional structures are contained.Under the framework of Skopos theory, this translation practice report provides sixteen examples to demonstrate the six strategies adopted in the translation practice to enhance the readability of the target text. The report is divided into six chapters.Chapter One is the introduction, which gives a brief overview of the research background.Chapter Two briefly introduces the source text and its linguistic features, and describes the task requirements.ChapterThree expounds the whole translation process, including the pre-translation,translation and post-translation.Chapter Four briefly introduces Skopos theory and its applicability to this translation practice and the differences between English and Chinese prepositions.Chapter Five proposes six kinds of translation strategies for prepositional structures.Chapter Six summarizes the findings and limitations in this translation report.
