The Contrastive Hierarchy in Phonology was published by Cambridge University Press in 2009,the writer is B·Elan Dresher,linguistics professor at the university of Toronto.This book presents a fascinating account of the logic and history of contrast in phonology,which has an important meaning for the study of phonology.So the writer chooses the academic text as the translation materials based on Text Typology Theory,and makes research for the translation of the academic text from syntactic and lexical aspects.The book includes 9 chapters with more than 10000 words,the writer spent one and a half years to translate and after the translation task was finished,the translation report began to be composed.According to Reiss' s theory,the book belongs to academic text,which is a very typical informative text,so the translation should transmit the full referential or conceptual content of the ST and adopt “plain prose” method.For the translation of academic texts,the translator needs to know some knowledge in the academic field of the translated text and master the translation characteristics of the lexicons and sentences.The academic texts are generally professional and accurate.Therefore,the translator used a variety of translation strategies,such as the specialization of general nouns,division and combination,omission and addition in lexical level,in order to satisfy the users' needs;the translator also used voice changes,adjustment of sentence order and so on in syntactic level for making the Chinese readers get the original meaning of the sentences accurately.This report conducts the translation practice for academic text under the guidance of Reiss' s Text Typology Theory,which has an implication for mastering scientific translation method and combining the academic text with translation.
