A Translation Report Of Developing Translation Competence(The First And Second Articles Of Section Two)

This is a translation report on Developing Translation Competence by Christina Schaffner and Beverly Adab. The book is a collection of articles, of which the first one and the second one of section two are the source texts to be translated. The first article introduces five stages in developing translation competence, basic concepts during translation process, main strategies, various translation norms and how different norms and strategies are adopted to guide teaching. The second article describes the core of translation competence and training methods, meanwhile examples are cited to guide teaching.The translation report covers the main content of the translation project, in which the corresponding translation methods are put forward in terms of the linguistic characteristics of the source text. The translation theory adopted by the report is functional equivalence proposed by American translation theorist Eugene Albert Nida,and communicative translation strategy is adopted.This translation report consists of five parts. The first part presents background information and significance of this translation project, as well as the introduction of the project. The second part briefly introduces the process of translation, including before, during and after the translation. The third part concludes the analysis of text type, the translation theory and main strategies adopted. The fourth part presents case analysis from lexical, syntactic and discoursal level. In the last part, the author summarizes lessons and experiences gained from this translation practice and some points to be focused on in future translation tasks.
