| Since 1980s localization industry has went through a rapid development period and turned into one of the striking components of language service industry. Website localization is a process of modifying websites to cater to the target market with an aim to provide convenient browsing experience for target users. The in-depth study of website localization may provide new ideas and approaches for the development of language service industry, translation study and the cultivation mechanism of MTI, which possesses profound significance and prospective.The thesis, based on Cultural Values Framework and skopostheorie, systematically investigates the working process, evaluating standard and the research status and development trends of website localization.The study takes the localized websites of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Construction Bank, Bank of China and Agricultural Bank of China for the object of the research, and takes Citi Bank, Bank of American, Wells Fargo and Barclays for reference in context translation. In regard to the translation section in website localization process, the thesis focuses on the content of’Online Banking’service, summarizes the common problems exist in translation section of website localization and puts forward some corresponding suggestions and strategies.This thesis indicates that website localization is not a simple process of language transformation, but a method of cross-cultural communication which involves cultural consciousness, linguistic idiomaticities, aesthetics of design, IT and management skills, etc. As an important section in language service industry, website localization possesses its own unique characteristics, workflow and specific requirements. At present, the reserve of localized translation talents and the innovation of curriculum system and cultivation mechanism of MTI have been a priority to be addressed by both scholars and insiders. |
