A Study On The Characteristics And Strategies Of Localized Translation Of English Websites

As an indispensable part of the localization industry,localized translation has become the future direction of translation services.Localized translation of websites is an extension of the translation model of the Internet era,and is regarded as an important part of strategies of enterprise localization.With the rapid development of e-commerce in our country,localization of English websites offers a way for more international companies to communicate with Chinese customers more easily and effectively.In this research paper,localized translation of English websites in China is taken as the research object.Combining translation theories and characteristics of the localization of the English website,this paper discusses some feasible strategies of localized translation of English website.This paper introduces the functionalist translation theory and the Hymes' s SPEAKING model theory as the theoretical frameworks.It focuses on the characteristics which distinguish the website localization translation from the traditional translation activities.These characteristics mainly include hypertext features,technical features and intermediacy features.This paper chooses the typical translation examples from the world's top 500 enterprises' official websites.With the help of translation theories,this paper puts forward some feasible translation strategies,including communicative translation strategy,referencing parallel texts,applying translation technology and tools,as well as cultural adaptation strategy.These translation strategies focus on different perspectives,such as content,structure,technique and culture.Through detailed description and comparative analysis of examples,this paper,moreover,expounds specific applications of these translation strategies into practice in localized translation for English website.The purpose of this paper is to provide inspirations for localization translators of English websites and to provide a practical reference to improve translation qualities of English websites.
