With the deepening of reform and opening up as well as the increasingly frequent international cultural exchanges, the implementation of cultural “going out” strategy is of great and far-reaching significance. Culture is the soft power of a country, and the culture of Xinjiang is characterized by diversity and nationality. At present, we should seize the strategic opportunity of “One Belt and One Road” and carry out the “going out” strategy of Xinjiang culture, which can not only let the world have a better understanding of the contemporary and developing Xinjiang but also can promote its continuous growth, gather its strength and expand its influence, and make the culture of Xinjiang become a bright pearl on the Silk Road as well. The task is to translate the Li Juan’s anthology of essays — Corner of Altay — from Chinese into English. In this book, the author described the customs in Xinjiang with fresh, lively and simple language and recorded the day to day life of Kazak people in the area of Altay bit by bit. The translation of this book belongs to literary translation, and its practice report on translation is mainly based on the translation practice of four pieces of prose in front of the book. The report described the background, significance and content of the translation task as well as the whole translation process, introducing the guiding theory of the translation task and the application of the theory through concrete examples. At last is a summary of the report. In the process of translation, the translation mainly took Nida’s functional equivalence theory as a guide, with literal translation, free translation, transliteration plus annotation, transformation, restructuring and other translation strategies. And the report analyzed the application of “functional equivalence” from the lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence, textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence. Through the combination of translation and functional equivalence theory, the report will provide a reference for the future translation practice and research of Xinjiang culture, and enrich and improve the literary translation of minority culture in Xinjiang.
