During the current rapid development of communication technology and network technology, human beings are creating and experiencing a new, ever –expanding society, namely network society. Social aspects of life are subject to the effect of network. Education, as an important part of the social system, is also no exceptional. MOOC is a special displaying mode of education in the network society. MOOC has quickly swept the world after its emergence and attracted worldwide attention in educational circles. Well–known universities at home and abroad have joined in the construction of MOOCs. Under the background of information technology, the traditional College English teaching seems to be far from enough to meet the needs of the society and the students, the voice of the reform of College English teaching becomes more and more fierce. Therefore,the study on the teaching mode of MOOC in English teaching and the comparison between MOOC and the traditional class is beneficial to provide a new angle of view for the reform of College English teaching, which is provided with certain practical values.Based on the understanding and analysis of the present MOOCs’ situation in domestic and foreign colleges and universities, the author takes a MOOC named College Oral English set up by National University of Defense Technology, a key university of science and technology in China, as an example, adopts the methodology of case study, depicts the operational mode of this MOOC, analyzes this MOOC mainly from the basic elements of teaching mode: course objectives, implementation conditions, teaching procedures, and evaluation and summarizes the advantages of MOOC combined with the experience and reflections of six MOOC learners(two undergraduates, two graduates and two Ph D students), which aims to explore some new thoughts on optimizing the College English teaching.The finding of this study reveals that the Internet–based mode of English teaching is promising and applicable in College English teaching by analyzing the experiences of six MOOC learners together with the author’s own learning experience, thus providing some enlightenment for the innovation of classroom teaching mode, enhancing the quality of College English teaching and deepening the reform of College English teaching according to the characteristics and advantages of MOOC’s teaching mode.
