Chinese Modern Liberalism Decline And Rethink

As we know, Chinese modern liberalism came from the west. Although ancient Chinese culture contains some liberalism elements, but far from the real historical conditions for the formation of such a kind of political thought. The western liberalism can be traced back to ancient Greece, its’sprout can be found in ancient Greek politicians’works and thoughts. After the Renaissance, religious reform, the Westerners thought had been a great liberation. With this historical process, political ideas have emerged. Until the Enlightenment period, on the basis of the previous idea of social political, economic and historical conditions, liberalism comes into true. In the later more than three hundred years, liberalism has been rapid development. The liberalism propositions have also been applied to political practice, and guide the national macro political architecture. Today, liberalism has become the mainstream value idea of the western world, and has the sign of spreading throughout the world.Back to the Chinese from the west, Chinese modern history is suffering. Since1840China suffered from foreign aggression. From the opium war to the Japanese war of aggression against China, the civil war between the nationalists and the communists, as one of the oldest empires China has experienced one of the darkest period in its’five thousand years history. Modern Chinese also has been seeking "saving the nation from subjugation roads", from Wei Yuan "learn from the advanced technologies in the West in order to resist the invasion of the Western powers" to Li Hongzhang initiated the "Westernization movement", then as the representative of "the reform movement" Kang Youwei and Liang Qichao, Mr. Sun Zhongshan’s "three people’s principles"——the national salvation revolution, to"May fourth"new culture movement and the Communist Party of China boarded the stage of history, on this exploration road Chinese has not stopped. But the exception is the Chinese look into the west, China modern liberalism is accompanied by the "the west culture communication to China" wave into China, and made a brief "brilliant" in a period of time, but with the national government failure, some scholars also went to Taiwan, and liberalism made some development in Taiwan.The focus of this paper is mainly focused on four aspects:the general theory of western liberalism; main course of development of modern Characteristic China liberalism; specific analysis China modern liberalism decline reasons; and reflection and evaluation on this trend of thought. This paper involves widely, with my limited capacity, there are many omissions, hope teachers and scholars point it out.
