Antonio Gramsci,as one of the founders of Italian Communist Party, was a well-known Marxism theorist and statesman in westerncountries.Gramsci’s theory of cultural hegemony is one of the hot theory ofacademia today. His understanding of the nature, role of the ideology andhow to cultivate the proletarian ideology are very different from the classicalMarxist theory. Especially his theory of cultural hegemony, not only enrichedthe Marxist connotation, and the development of Marxism, but alsoguidance the Italian proletarian revolution in practice.Gramsci proposed an independent role of ideology. In the statepower, ideology and the political leadership are opposite sides of the samecoin, and neither is dispensable. For the paty, which doesn’t hold theregime, the importance of establishing their own ideology in the people ismuch larger than to acquire political leadership.Once establishes the“collective will”on the people’s voluntary “agreement”,then the politicalleadership will follow.Similarly, as the ruling party, must take into accountthe interests and requires of different classes of the masses, must combinewith the specific reality and objective reality, constantly revise and innovatethe theory, make the theory more likely to be accepted by the people, andthen make the people voluntarily accept the leadership of the proletarianparty.Gramsci’s hegemony thought is based on the practice of the proletarian revolution in Italy, and constantly improved and tested. His thought is thecreature of the combination of the revolutionary practice and the revolutionenvironment. So thinking about the cause and the method of Gramsci’stheory innovation,to put forward more instructive theory of the theory ofsocialist China characteristics is more valuable. In this paper,by analyzingthe background of Gramsci’s theoretical innovation for that theoreticalinnovation must be based on social practice, must keep the unity of theoryand practice.Meanwhile, only if we profoundly analyze the time and thesocial environment,we can propose a new theory of adapting to changes ofthe the times.
