It can be said that Northeast Asia which including China, Japan, North Korea andSouth Korea, Taiwan and its adjacent waters is one of the most unstable andconflict-prone areas in the world. And the situation on the Korean peninsula is one of thebiggest variable problems in the range of issues. The Korean Peninsula is located in theedge of the Eurasian continent and faces the Pacific Ocean on the east, its strategicposition is very important. The Korean peninsula brings the common concerns togetherlike the United States, Japan, Russia, China and other major powers; it is the junction ofthe interests of these great powers. Due to the special geopolitical factors, the situation onthe Korean peninsula is affected by the international situation, while it also impacts theinternational situation profoundly, especially the security and stability in Northeast Asia.Since1970s, China began to develop the economic rapidly, to the second decade of the21st century, China’s economic growth rate despite the slowdown, but the quality hassignificant improvement. Now, China’s development is in a critical transition stage,China can not develop itself without the world, even the surrounding environment, andthe situation on the Korean Peninsula is bound to play a certain impact on China’speripheral security environment.Through the exploration on the main affecting factors on the situation in the KoreanPeninsula as well as the major factors in the country, the paper analyzes the strategicposition of the Korean Peninsula, and the change of situation on the Korean peninsula,and pointed out the reasons of the formation on the Korean Peninsula situation and theexisting dilemma, so that to analyze the impact on Chinese traditional security,non-traditional security and the external environment of China’s development from thesituation on Korean Peninsula, and further raised the principle and coping strategies thatChina face to the changing situation on the Korean Peninsula. The thesis regards thenational interests and geopolitical position these two main theories as the basis, andanalyzes the effects produced on the Chinese national interests through geopoliticalchanges resulting from the changes in the situation on the Korean.The changing situation on the Korean Peninsula is very important to China’s development, if the situation on the Korean Peninsula is relatively stable, the NortheastAsia relations will certainly ease, China will also get a more peaceful and stable regionalenvironment for developing, however, if the situation on Korean Peninsula deteriorationinevitably, it must affect the security and stability in Northeast Asia, China’s developmentwill inevitably be adversely affected. And the influence reflects not only in the traditionalsecurity field, but also in non-traditional security. China’s research focuses on traditionalsecurity fields about the impact on china of the situation on the Korean Peninsula, butless for non-traditional security areas. With the development of globalization andregional integration, the non-traditional security will be the focus of internationalattention. China should give a high degree of attention on the Korean Peninsula situation,and actively explore the guidelines and policies to response the changing situation on theKorean Peninsula, and strive to maintain the situation on the Korean Peninsula, as well asthe security and stability in Northeast Asia situation in the region, in order to create apeaceful and stable regional environment for China’s development.
