This paper takes a geopolitical perspective and combines with changes of behavioral patterns among countries in different historical periods to comparatively analyze geopolitical position changes of the Korean peninsula. In modern history, due to the unique strategic location, the Korean peninsula’s important geopolitical significance as the fringes of the land and sea was once highlighted and was considered a strategic place where all the military strategists were fighting for. However, along with the development of the times, the traditional geopolitical theories that advocates the competition for living space no longer exist and was much more replaced by large-scale geo-economic cooperation by using space advantage, which reflects the competitive"zero"game situation among nations gradually turns to the development trend of mutual cooperation and "win-win" and shows that the era features of the modern geopolitics. After the Cold War, Northeast Asia also opens the door for cooperation and extensive exchanges and cooperation in major areas within the region were formed. However, the strategic pointing conflict among neighboring countries caused by the Korean Peninsula issues once again enhanced the geopolitical position of the Korean Peninsula, which becomes important obstacles to hindrance all-round cooperation in Northeast Asia, making Northeast Asia regional economic cooperation difficult to maximize its potential. This paper holds the idea that, from a geopolitical perspective analysis, strategic conflicts among the neighboring countries around the Korean peninsula problem after the Cold War can be understood as a mutual competitive gaming between the geo-political factor and the geo-economic factor which exists in the region of the Korean Peninsula. Either kind of factors dominant in the Korean will make an important impact on the entire Northeast Asian region. China’s peaceful development strategy in the post-Cold War decides that China needs a relatively stable surrounding environment. The surrounding security issues triggered by the situation changes of the peninsula makes China had a better understanding of the important effect of the Korean Peninsula on China’s security and economic development. Given this, this paper will raise some constructive views on China’s role in the resolution of the Korean Peninsula problem in future.
