Chairman Mao and the other leaders in the country launched the vigorous Great Leap Forward inthe late1950s to improve our economical and cultural situation rapidly. It had to be mentioned that manyinternational factors had an non-ignorable effect on the Great Leap Forward. Exploring the complexrelationship between the international factors and the Great Leap Forward was important to further theinvestigation of its original. The first international factor influencing the Great Leap Forward was that the internationalsituation tended to be soft after the mid1950s, which contributed to the judgment made by Chairman Maoand the Central Committee of the Communist Party that the world war would not break out in a short time. They believed China could take advantage of this limited opportunity and improve our comprehensivenational strength as soon as possible so as to take full preparations before the world war broke out and takea predominant position. Then the Great Leap Forward began. The second international factor was the hostile policy posed by the US led capitalist country, whotried to kill the socialist state China in the cradle by blocking、protecting and preventing. Chairman Maoand the other leaders realized that behind will be beaten, knowing from the lesson of the history. In order tomake sure the safety of the country, the steadiness of the state and the happy life of the people, the CentralCommittee of the Communist Party noticed that they should abandon the idea of relying on the foreigncountries and call on the whole country to rely on their own efforts, emancipate their mind, strive forprogress with determination and create an above normal road to the Great Leap Forward. The third international factor was the booming of the third scientific and technological revolution. The tide of the third scientific and technological revolution swept the globe and had a great influence on thehuman society. The Central Committee of the Communist Party noticed the importance of the science andtechnology, called on to advance towards modern science and shifted the working center to technologicalrevolution. What’s regretful was that Chairman Mao lost heart to intellectual totally in anti-rightistmovement in1957and tried to do the technological revolution mainly by the mass of the workers and thepeasants to promote the Great Leap Forward. The fourth international factor was the opening of the20thcongress of the Communist Party ofthe Soviet and the CCP and the Poland and Hungary incidents, which posed a complex influence on theleaders of the Party. On one hand, Chairman Mao and the Central Committee of the Communist Partynoticed the defects and results copying the Soviet, raised opposing dogmatism by taking Soviet model as amirror exploring the unique socialist construction road according to the condition of China. On the otherhand, Chairman Mao and the Central Committee of the Communist Party thought the secret report made byKhrushchev in the20thcongress of the Communist Party of the Soviet denied Stalin totally, which had aserious negative effect and would cause a chain reaction in the international activities. The CCP and thePoland and Hungary incidents was an example. After the incident, Chairman Mao put forward clearlyGuard against revisionism tendencies. Taking Soviet model as a mirror, Chairman Mao believed thethoughts should be changed in socialist construction. They should borrow the successful experience inChina’s revolution and war times, such as having politics in command and mass movement. Only by doinglike this could they avoid revisionism tendencies and make the socialist construction develop much morequickly and better, which was the basic strategy of the Great Leap Forward. The fifth international factor was the catching up with the tide in the socialist camp. At thebeginning of the foundation of the new Chinese, especially after the20thcongress of the Communist Partyof the Soviet, the catching up with the tide in the economical construction area in socialist camp. ChairmanMao and the Central Committee of the Communist Party believed that as an important force in socialistcamp, China could not lag behind in the catching up with the tide, China would run before the UnitedStates and Britain, latecomers before the first only by fully mobilizing the enthusiasm of the masses of thepeople building. The above five aspects contributed to the Great Leap Forward Policy made by Chairman Maoand the Central Committee of the Communist Party. We could see that some of them were right or basicallyright, some were partial and erroneous. The lessons from the Great Leap Forward told us that we shouldjudge and react to the international situation rightly, insist on the seeking truth from facts ideological line, recognize the enthusiasm of the mass, promote and develop the democracy within the party, be against thecult of personality and individual arbitrariness.
