Midas Touch: The Study On The Wutai New Cultural Village Construction

Under the intense changes of the production and life styles with thesubject of “modernization” and “globalization”, there are big gapsbetween the urban and rural areas, and the development of rural areas inthe inferior becomes an important issue. In China, the problems related toagriculture, rural areas and farmers are focused by the whole society. Atpresent, the transformation of rural construction is entering into a criticalperiod, and there appear many new forms of rural development due tovarious conditions in different rural areas. The form of rural constructiondirectly influences the relationship between urban and rural areas, as wellas the process of building up a harmonious society.This thesis on the basis of the materials from fieldwork, Supplementedby historical documents, village construction theory and anthropologicalresearch methods. It comprehensively analyzes the process of the Wutainew cultural village construction. The farmers utilize the stone resourcesto create the stone culture, build pleasure-in-farmhouse tourism industry,and explore the new construction path characterized by “not leaving thehometown”, with the farmers as the main body and the pleasure infarmhouse tourism as the carrier. The path helps complete the localtransformations of farmers, realize the structural readjustment andmodern transformation of the villages, and creates the rural culture withthe spirit of the times which is different from the cities. The rural areasare positively interacted with the cities, and the gaps between urban andrural areas are shortened. The paper mainly analyzes the ruraltransformation process and the farmers`role in it, and indicates that in thecritical period of rural construction transformation, the farmers choosewhich path to construct the villages. It also analyzes the culturalmechanism behind the unique rural construction path created by the farmers when they adapt to the modernization and the urban development.It aims to, theoretically, deepen the research of rural construction, andmeanwhile provide the practical reference for the rural construction.
