In early19th century, the Qing Dynasty interacted with Vietnam constantly underthe Sino-Vietnamese tributary system and frequently between the envoys. As a vassalstate, Vietnam routinely tribute to the Qing Dynasty for because of admiring theQing’s power and a large number of envoys dispatched to the Qing Dynasty. Ly V nPh c, one of the many Vietnam diplomatic envoys, was missioned to China six timesduring1831-1842.His duties include escorting person who were drifted to Vietnamreturn to Qing, or solving the problems of water bandit, or exploring the whereaboutsof the Vietnam vessel, or reporting sorrow and tributing to Qing Dynasty. During hismission, Ly V n Ph c enjoyed the infinite beauty of the land and made friends withscholars through poetry and safeguarded national dignity by the debate of HuaYi,which was recorded in his YanXing Diaries.With unique perspective, Ly V n Ph cnot only showed us the cultural exchange between the social changes of the Qingdynasty between the1930s and1940s, but also provided the first material for thestudy of social, economic, cultural, military, people, customs and other studies.
