As China entering the aging society since1999, it has become a nation with the lar-gest elderly members.Xi’an has entered the aging society in2000after Beijing and Shanghai.it has become a nation with the largest elderly members. With the aging processquickened, it has drawn great attention that how the aged live after retirement.Combined with living condition, these two problems have become the livelihood of thepeople.At present, the elderly in China may choose the following three ways to spendtheir retirement life, which are family to care for the aged, institutions for the aged andliving in their own homes. Given respect to Chinese traditional ethics and the facilityscarcity of institutions for the aged, most of the old people prefer to living in their ownhomes. But it brings various problems, including scarcity of social facility, unhealthycommunity environment, scarcity of professional service and the security etc. Underthis circumstance, the composite elderly community is a new model which combines theadvantages of home-living and institutional caring. It is built guided by the thought thatthe aged as the core, and designed on the authority of fully accessible and human basedmanagement. The elderly could make their own choice based on their physical,psychological and living demand..Yunhezhuang elderly community in Fuping is a composite community, whichprovides four stages of services, from self-care to fully nursed according to their healthcondition and ability. The aged may live in their homes while being properly served.Based on visits and investigation on the living mode and condition after theirretirement in China, this article makes detailed analysis of the physiological and psychological characteristics of the elderly population and their living needs throughcomprehensive questionnaire and quantitative statistics analysis. Besides, this articlebrings out a composite elderly community which contributes a new brick to this area.Through a thorough research on the composite elderly community at home and abroad,this article analyses the advantages and trends of this kind of community.
