With the advancement of urbanization and industrialization, population flowing to cities has increased dramatically. As a result, the identity transformation and integration of migrant workers has exerted great influences on social transformation and population structure. However, the group of rural migrant workers is not homogeneous with huge disparity among different generations. This paper gives a comparison and analysis of rural migrant workers by dividing the whole group into new generation rural migrant workers and old generation rural migrant workers, which is rare in domestic studies. New generation and old generation rural migrant workers have great difference in terms of educational background, thoughts and behaviors. As a result, they have different social identity and different expectations for the future, leading to different behavioral decision. So, it is of significance to do research in the difference of integration between new generation and old generation rural migrant workers. In the perspective of generational division, with rural migrant workers into the city as a breakthrough point, this paper gives a scientific definition of the new and old generation rural migrant workers by combining with the related theory and the existing research results. Based on statistics of Shanghai in 2012 from the survey of National Dynamic Supervision of Floating Population by Floating People Division of National Health Family Planning Commission (originally known as the National Population Family Planning Commission), this paper gives a comparison of the current status and characteristics of new and old generation of rural migrant workers in the process of integration, provides an analysis of main factors affecting the process in terms of the economic, social, psychological dimension and offer a scientific measurement of the city integration degree and structure dimensions of new and old generation of rural migrant workers by using factor analysis method. Meanwhile, it establishes the regression model, takes into account the demographic variables such as gender, age, educational background and uses multiple linear regression to do research in variations of the mutual influence of these aspects and impact on the status of integration, so as to provide targeted suggestions and measures for promoting the city integration of new generation and old generation of migrant workers with different demographic features.According to the research, it is easier for new generation of migrant workers to integrate to the city in terms of economic and social aspects than old generation of migrant workers, who perform better in perspective of psychology. Currently, economic factor is not the main one that influence the city integration anymore both to new generation and old generation of migrant workers, while the personal factor of floating population and the system factor have gradually become the important factors that exert influence. In view of the conclusions above, the government should gradually ease the limits of scheme, gradually breaks the connection between census register system and related social security system and establish a set of social security system suitable to rural migrant workers. Also, the government and related institutions should improve the supervision on labor market and integrate the migrant workers with urban labor market system through institutionalization. Meanwhile, the government should, in view of the different characteristics of new and old rural migrant workers, stand on the point of view of community, strengthen public service and reasonably lead in the integration of rural migrant worker community with urban residential community. At last, the government should strengthen the construction of rural basic education and the professional skill training of rural migrant workers, improve the quality of the migrant workers as a whole in order to better meet the demand of employment units and make further improvement in helping old rural migrant workers to integrate to cities.
