The development of internet has made a breakthrough in traditional way to transmit information. By using P2P technology-based Information Sharing Platform, the end users of network can obtain all kinds of information resources easily. Various kinds of internet medias have been accepted, and also widely applied among many network end users; they have begun to take shape in influencing public as main stream medias. However, large numbers of files being shared in P2P technology are the unauthorized copies without official authorization by copyright owners. It has violated the interests of both copyright holders and copyright industries, leading to a contradiction between P2P technology and copyright protection.Copyright law is improved along with the development of the technology. In order to confront the impact of P2P technology to copyright protection, international organizations and various countries in the world actively amend the law, it includes the "WIPO Copyright Treaty", "WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty", America’s "Digital Millennium Copyright Act", and so on. However, do all these treaties, domestic laws, "Berne Convention" and "Universal Copyright Convention" explicitly regulates the reproduction rights of copyright owners, fair use and network information dissemination rights in an internet environment? Meanwhile, what treaty obligations do involving countries have to protect copyright or related parties, as well as to balance the public interest in fair use? In the process of domestic legislation, how to seek new copyright protection mode in an internet environment? In which ways to achieve the interest balance between copyright owners, P2P technology and public interest by maintaining the purpose of legislation? These issues are worthy of further study. This paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapter introduces P2P and an overview of P2P copyright protection, plus the study of P2P concept. The second chapter is based on current P2P copyright protection under an internet environment in international community, analyses international conventions as well as domestic legislation in various countries. The third chapter discusses the responsibility of copyright violation caused by P2P. The fourth chapter studies the realization of Chinese P2P-related copyright protection legislation, and suggests constructive ideas.
