The Current Situation Of Nursing Homes In Urumqi And The Status Quo Of Quality Of Life And Social Support Of Their Elderly People

Objective:1.To investigate the current situation of nursing homes in Urumqi.2.To investigate the status quo of quality of life and social support of elderly people in nursing home in Urumqi.3.To explore the influencing factors that affect the quality of life and social support of elderly people in nursing home in Urumqi.4,To analyze the correlation between quality of life and the social support of elderly people in nursing homes in Urumqi. These can provide a basis of how to accelerate the development of pension services and enhance the elderly health management. Methods:1.We used questionnaires to investigate the current situation of 29 nursing homes that registered and operating in Urumqi.2. We conducted survey of eligible elderly people in18 nursing homes (4 public and 14 private) that stratified random sampled from 29 nursing homes. Questionnaires were SF-36 health survey questionnaire and Social Support Scale. Results:1. The current situation of nursing homes in Urumqi:29 nursing homes that registered and operating in Urumqi are located in 6 districts and 1 county. There are totally 4019 beds in 29 nursing homes. There are 21 small and medium sized nusing homes,1 large sized nursing homeand 7 outsized nursing homes;Living facilities are given priority to clothes cleaning and disinfection equipment, the proportion is 86.20%; Health care facilities are given priority to some simple health management equipment like hematomanometer and weighing-machine, the proportion are 86.21% and 72.41%,there lack of rehabilitation facilities; Fitness entertainment facilities are given priority to reading room and chess-poker room, the proportion are 37.93% and 34.48%,there lack of indoor fitness equipment; Daily life service are given priority to cleaning the room bed sheets, quilt covers, pillow towels, the proportion is 100%; health-care service are given priority to monitoring vital signs, the proportion is 86.21%, mental health and psychosocial service are given priority to individual psychological counseling for the elderly, the proportion is 100%, entertainment service are given priority to organizing performance regularly, the proportion is 44.83%;Charging standard:there are state funding for small part of the elderly people and most elderly people need to pay 800 to3000yuan per month; Staff composition:there are totally 107 management personnels,52 doctors,282 nursing staffs and 167 other staffs, degree of doctors are given priority to junior college, the proportion is 77.42%, degree of nursing staffs are given priority to secondary, the proportion is47.81%;There are 2822 elderly people in 29 nursing homes in Urumqi, and the lodging ratio is 70.22%.2.The score of QOL is 102.40 (89.10,118.20) and there were statistical difference of QOL in the nature of nursing homes, age, ethnic, education, marriage, chronic diseases, monthly income and medical health service, P<0.05.3. The score of social support is 31.00(21.00,39.00) and there were statistical difference of social support in education, marriage, occupation, monthly income, amount of children, years living in the nursing home and mental health service.4. The QOL and social support were positively correlated and the Pearson correlation coefficient was 0.441,P<0.05.Conclusion:1. Problems in nursing homes in Urumqi are as follows:nursing homes are unevenly distributed and in the form of a single and nursing homes for minority are sparsely operated; Pension beds’ supply and demand are imbalanced; infrastructure configuration are incomplete; service is simple, medical service is lower and elderly health management is not well; lacking of professional staff and their professional skill needing to be enhanced.2. Quality of life of elderly people in nursing homes in Urumqi was in a middle level, and mail influencing factors were the nature of nursing homes, age, ethnic, education, marriage, chronic diseases, monthly income and medical health service.3. Social Support of elderly people in nursing homes in Urumqi was in a middle level, and the main influencing factors are the nature of nursing homes, age, ethnic, education, marriage, chronic diseases, monthly income and medical health service.4.The quality of life and social support of eldery in nursing homes in Urumqi are closely related.Therefore, we need to focus on the development of nursing homes and take influencing factors into consideration that make elderly a better life.
