The May 4th Youth Day derives from China’s “the May 4th movement” which is an anti-imperialist patriotic movement in 1919. Since the May 4th movement, the status of youth began to get attention and researches on youth also slowly developed. Youth are the hope of a country for the future of the nation, the builders and successors of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Since China’s reform and opening-up, in the face of new situation and task brought by China’s deep transformation, the leaders of several generations of the communist party of China formed youth theory with rich content and the epochal characteristics, about the status and role of youth, growth and development of youth, culture and education of youth, how to participate in social practice, and how to deal with the relationship between the individual and society, etc.. The party leaders’ memorial speeches(hereafter referred to as “May 4th speeches”) around Youth Day, embodies the leaders’ views and opinions on the youth more centrally.This article is based on the reality of our country’s national condition and adheres to the guidance of Marxist historical materialism, setting several the May 4th speeches of party’s all leaders of previous generations as research objects. Then, it also tries to use the new thought to comb and elaborate the party’s view of all the leaders’ youth theory since China’s reform and opening-up. Meanwhile, it summaries some significant youth work’s theory and practice achievements. Specifically, in this paper, it is divided into 5 parts to do the research: the first chapter, introduction, introduces the research’s background and significance of the selected topic and research current situation and methods, etc.; the second chapter, sketches out the youth theory and its theoretical basis; the third chapter respectively expounds leaders’ youth theory of four generations(Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, Hu Jingtao, Xi Jinping). The fourth chapter compares with Chinese leaders’ youth theory of several generations and illuminates. The last part is the conclusion and realistic enlightenment.In perspective of “May 4th” speech, analyzing leaders’ youth theory of several generations since China’s reform and opening-up is in favor of correctly understanding and grasping the youth and its existing problem under the new situation. It is the necessary guarantee for expanding way of thinking and youth work.
