Social stability in ethnic areas has been a hot topic in the academic research for a long time. In today’s world, along with the deepening process of globalization, the nation-state just accounts for a very few, and most countries are multi-ethnic countries or immigrant countries. As long as it is not a nation-state, it will face with the problem of the interaction between national identity and ethnic identity. China is a unified multi-ethnic country, and ethnic issues are closely related to the social stability. The highlighted performance of the stability in ethnic areas is the construction of a harmonious society, and its core problem is the relationship between ethnic identity and national identity. Globalization brings to our country the rapid changes, so we must strive to maintain a harmonious relationship with minority nationalities, and consolidate the sense of national identity of minorities. One is a natural person at birth, but he has social attributes because of growth in society. One’s identity is also influenced by the specific situation with which he contact in social activities, and becomes diversified with the expansion of the scope of social interaction. Therefore, the person’s identity is multiple and historical. So is the relationship between national identity and ethnic identity in the non-nation state. In order to do empirical research on the status of national identity and its influential factors of minorities in Gannan Tibetan regions, we choose Tibetan people in Hezuo city as the main object of study. When selecting samples, we conform to certain criteria. By using specific methods such as questionnaire, interview, observation, and finding some relevant documents, we collect essential data so that we investigate the minorities of Hezuo city in Gannan. The design of the questionnaire adopts the forms of Likert scale and multiple choices, and national identity and ethnic identity are analyzed under three dimensions respectively. Quantitative and qualitative methods, along with the combination of statistics and case study are adopted in analyzing the data. In the analysis, I clarify the “conflict” proposition of “opposites of ethnic identity and national identity”, and analyze the relationship between national identity and ethnic identity of minorities in Gannan Tibetan regions objectively and dialectically.Minorities have a high level of national identity in Gannan Tibetan regions in the results of study, and it shows that their ethnic identity is protected by Chinese nation; the relationship between the level of national identity and ethnic identity of young people is direct ratio and the middle-aged and elderly people is inverse ratio; at the same time, it is related to individual differences, ethnic identity, political, cultural, and social factors. Therefore, to strengthen the sense of national identity should adjust measures to their local conditions. First of all, to lay solid foundation of identity from the grass roots; to use the positive role of national identity; to attach great importance to the civic education and China’s ethnic policy propaganda; to strengthen the construction of legal system and urbanization in ethnic areas. In general, to promote national identity should base on cultural identity.
