Ever since the first Industrial Revolution, new science and technology has greatly promoted the society’s labor productivity with materials and wealth rapidly expanding just like balloons. Meanwhile, with the continuous improvement of economic level, various ecological problems like ecological imbalance, environmental deterioration and rapid population growth have gradually attracted people’s attention, and a large number of environmental activists have been engaged in researches into ecological theories. From the perspective of ecological Marxism theory, this concludes from analysis that the capitalist system is the root cause to ecological crisis, and the ultimate way to solve ecological problems is to eliminate the capitalist system and construct the ecological socialism. This paper includes the following aspects:Chapter One is the Introduction, mainly introducing the background and significance of the study; research goals and methods; review of domestic and foreign researches; innovation and deficiencies; and relevant basic concepts, etc.Chapter Two mainly expounds the social background and ideological background of the birth of ecological Marxism. Marx earlier paid attention to ecological problems and clarified that there is an interdependent relationship between human beings and nature, which also restrict each other, and capitalism is the root of all evils to ecological crisis. Based on the theories of Western environmental protectionists and Frankfurt school, ecological Marists further study ecological crisis theories. In Chapter Three, the author explores the root cause to ecological crisis starting from ecological Marxism, and points out that capitalist application of science and technology, alienation of the capitalist mode of production, alienation o capitalist consumption patterns and ecological imperialism are the main reasons for environmental deterioration in today’s world. Ecological Marxism scholars have revealed that in order to obtain the maximum benefits, the bourgeoisie have damaged ecological harmony, and their final goal is to relentless oppress the proletariat and launch colonial wars by technical means. In Chapter Four, the author makes a systematic summary. First of all, ecological Marxists think that science and technology is not the root cause to ecological crisis, but they are just exploited by capitalism. As long as science and technology is rationally used, they cannot only benefit human beings, but also protect the environment. Secondly, alienation of consumption is overcome by Ben Agger’s “dialectics with broken hope” so that people reevaluate the way to satisfy their demands; also, Lace’s steady economy can prevent the rice of alienation of consumption. Meanwhile, drawing reference from research experience of early ecological Marxist scholars, modern scholars conclude from economic, social and political perspective that only “ecological socialism” can guarantee all-round development of human beings without being misled by capitalist consumerism. In Chapter Five, the author points out that the theory of ecological crisis has important theoretical guiding significance for the construction of ecological civilization in China. The key of China’s construction of ecological civilization is to take the road of scientific and technological innovation and rationally use science and technology. In terms of production, we shall firmly believe in socialism and make full use of its superiority. In terms of consumption, in addition to discarding the alienation of consumption, we shall also pay attention to the construction of ecological ethics to make the awareness of conservation deeply rooted on people’s mind. Meanwhile, as the world’s second largest economy, China also has the responsibility to contribute its own efforts to the ecological environment and harmonious coexistence of human beings and nature to achieve sustainable economic development.Nowadays, in the 21 st century, with the strong support of the broad masses and under the guidance of the national policy of saving resources and protecting the environment, China’s ecological environment has been improved. The author hopes that with the enhancement of Chinese people’s ecological awareness and the promotion of green development, low-carbon development and cyclic development, we can definitely overcome various difficulties to create a better living and production environment for our future generations and contribute to the world’s ecological environment.
