| The European Neighborhood Policy was formally put forward in 2004, which is a major policy document of the European Union to manage relations with its neighbouring countries. According to the regulation of European Neighborhood Policy, European Union and its neighbouring countries share anything but institutions, so as to achieve the overall goal of the EU’s border security. With the enlargement of the European Union, the borders of the EU is constantly changing. In order to adapt to the new external environment, the EU begin to develop the European neighbourhood policy,then the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership and the Eastern Partnership have been implemented.Ukraine is an important neighbouring country in the east of European Union, and has an important geopolitical significance to the European Union. At the same time, Ukraine is actively developing relations with the EU under the influence of domestic and foreign factors. Ultimately it becomes the main neighbouring country of the European neighbourhood policy.The European neighbourhood policy plays an important influence to the outbreak of the Ukrainian crisis in 2013. This paper argues that this influence has a strong stage characteristics. In the initial stage, the European neighbourhood policy is the blasting fuse to the Ukrainian crisis in light of the crisis which erupted in the wake of Viktor Yanukovych’s decision to not sign the offered Association Agreement. In the development stage of the crisis, the European neighborhood policy not only exacerbated Ukraine’s domestic political power struggle, but also urges the EU, Russia, the United States and other western countries involved in this crisis in Ukraine. Eventually,Ukraine completely tend to favor of the EU.The European Neighborhood Policy plays an important role on the outbreak and development of the Ukrainian crisis. As well as, the European Neighborhood Policy has the impact on the EU’s political, economic, security and other aspects through the Ukrainian crisis. |
