The Research On Left-behind Children’s Media Image

With the flow of migrant workers between cities and rural areas each year, the scale of left-behind children is also increasing. They become an important reported issue of mass media, and often appear in the newspaper, TV and online.Nowadays, the mass media become an important channel that people use to recognize and understand of left-behind children. What’s more, "People’s Daily" is the first newspaper to concern and report left-behind children.So, I choose it as sample to analyze the media image of left-behind children and its construction process. I select 380 reports of left-behind children between 2006 to 2015. Then I research the style, story theme, reported attitudes, sources of the article content, through the content of analysis method, and parse the characteristics of the reports of left-behind children in" People’s Daily ".Thirdly, I analyze the reports content,the media image frame and its construction process of left-behind children, through the construction point of view.The study find that left-behind children have four kinds of media image in People’s Daily. The first one is the problem children who are lack of family education and parental care of children; second is "Happy Children" who are in the love of government and social assistance; the third is disadvantage children who need the care of parents; and the last one is good children who are vulnerable and independent, in the "People’s Daily".In addition, the study also find that three problems of the reports of left-behind children. Media ignore left-behind children’ discourse. And the reported pattern of left-behind children modeling.
