Since the reform and opening up,large-scale left-behind children have gradually come into people's vision with the media spotlight.This group and social phenomenon has aroused widespread social concern.With the increasing number of left-behind children and the increasingly complex structure,a large range of vulnerable groups has emerged.They have problems in physiology,education,morality,personal safety and family environment,and the media plays an irreplaceable role in paying attention to this social problem.Looking at the domestic research on the media image of Left-behind children,it is not difficult to find that most of them are summarized from the perspective of reporting framework and image classification,and put forward suggestions for news reporting strategies.On the basis of summing up the experience and shortcomings of the predecessors,the author realizes that there is a deviation between the image presentation of left-behind children by the mainstream media and the reality.Therefore,this paper analyzes the media text through the semiotic method,explains the stereotyped display of the text to the reproduction object,and helps the audience understand the text and the left-behind children group in the text correctly.From the perspective of semiotics,this paper chooses 237 news reports of China Youth Daily from 2012 to 2018 as samples of text symbols,and the CCTV documentary "nostalgia" as samples of audio-visual symbols.From the visual and visible image of Left-behind children,this paper explores the image of left-behind children in the mainstream media by using theories and methods of communication,semiotics and psychology.What kind of typological characteristics do the media play a role in the construction of the image of left-behind children as one of the ideological tools? In addition,the author tries to intervene in it from the perspective of image criticism,tracing back to the three prototypes corresponding to the images of left-behind children repeatedly disseminated by the media,revealing the authenticity of official discourse in shaping and constructing their images,and putting forward some suggestions for the scientific construction of media images.Through the semiotic interpretation of the media image of Left-behind children,this paper finds that,in order to meet the needs of the mainstream ideology,the mainstream media tends to construct the image of left-behind children with the characteristics of otherness,labelling and stigmatization.This paper suggests that in future communication activities,the mainstream media should take advantage of official empowerment,take the initiative to broaden the discourse space for left-behind children,abandon the pre-established scene,break through the dominant narrative framework,and build an effective voice platform for them.
