Research On Status Of Public Swimming Coaches In Shenyang Based On Competency Model

Swimming is not only a sport, but also a survival skill. Learning to swim has a broad mass base. Agrowing number of fitness amateurs choose to improve physical fitness by swimming which leads to theemergence of public swimming coaches who work at fitness clubs or various public swimming pools.Demands in modern society are increasing. Coaches only with good skills can’t satisfy the amateurs. Howto choose public swimming coaches who are in line with requirements of modern people is not only whatfitness consumers concern, but also a problem relating to the survival and development of swimmingfitness industry. Whether public swimming coaches have the ability of swimming training and coachingand what competency of public swimming coaches have will play a very crucial role in the development ofnational fitness and public swimming industry.First, by means of literature review, this paper makes a conclusion on the characteristics ofcompetency and its model as well as gives a definition of a relevant concept of public swimming coaches’competency. Second, through the method of questionnaire survey, the application of competency modelscale and content of relevant competency, the paper conduct a survey on swimming coaches, venuemanagement and members randomly selected. Finally, through mathematical statistics, by using spss19.0data statistics, the relevant reliability and validity of survey results are tested for the purpose of identifyingthe relationship and significant differences among various dimensions.The following results are gained on competency and status of public swimming coaches in Shenyang.First, instructor competency scale of leisure sports clubs can be used for competency test of publicswimming coaches, which can test competency of public swimming coaches more comprehensively withgood reliability and validity. Second, it is found that competency of public swimming coaches is somehowrelevant to the basic differences of coaches, especially in their age, occupational time and educationbackground. However, according to the survey on working situation of public swimming coaches, it isfound that poor self-improvement of public swimming coaches in work and poor management ofswimming pools affect competency of public swimming coaches. Meanwhile, it also restricts the promotionof public swimming coaches in development and management.According to the description and confirmation of competency of public swimming coaches, thispaper aims to find actual conditions of public swimming coaches, to provide effective recommendations onthe improvement of capability, quality and working condition of public swimming coaches, and to offersuggestions and help to make a stable development of public swimming training market.
