The adapted education is directed mainly at handicapped children and adolescents,whose level of development is used as an important symbol to measure the progress of acountry and its social civilization. Since the reform and opening up, Chinese educationhas gradually gained attention and enjoyed a rapid development. However, adaptedphysical education was still in the marginalization of Chinese educational cause. Atpresent, there only have five domestic universities, Tianjin University of Sport,Shandong Sport University, Xi’an Physical Education University, Guangzhou SportUniversity and Physical Education College of Liaoning Normal University, who hasestablished the adapted education major to cultivate adapted physical educators.With the intensified trends of the international educational integration, manycountries are actively discussing the reform of a new curriculum system reform for thenew century in order to nurture creative talents with all-round development. As a newmajor, the adapted physical education is still no national united scheduled professionaltalents training program (teaching structure). Thus these five sports institutions only cancompile their own training program and curriculum system based on the conditions ofthe disabled in the Area and schools themselves. Curriculum can not only optimizeteaching resources allocation and improve the teaching abilities, but also contribute tocultivating compound talents with high-ethics, strong abilities as well as innovativespirit and practical abilities for the society.As one of the world’s most developed countries in economics and education, thedevelopment of adapted education has been in the forefront of the world. By the end of2006, the United States had formed a structure for special physical education trainingincluding undergraduate, master and doctoral degrees. The advanced curriculum ideasformed in the development of America’s adapted physical education have certainreferences to Chinese adapted physical education curriculum. This article carries out a literature research, comparative analysis, expertinterviews and other methods to carry out a comparative study of the adapted physicaleducation curriculum in China and United States, and based on this, explores theadapted physical education curriculum in Chinese sports institutions, to provide areference for the set of Chinese adapted physical education curriculum.The results show that the adapted physical education curriculum in our country hassome problems:1. Its setting is influenced by the ideas of traditional curriculum.2. Thearrangement of curriculum structural scale is unreasonable.3. The curriculum about thehandicapped sports is not much.4. There is more physical education curriculums inprofessional curriculum setting.According to these problems, this article provides some suggestions:1. Theobjectives of talent cultivation must be explicit, taking the compound and appliedspecial sports talents as the base.2. The curriculum should actively cater and adapt tothe needs of basic education reform and development in the adapted educationschools.3. There should be more curriculums about some corrective sports, adaptedsports and developmental sports.4. Consider fully and combine the actual situation,then offer characteristic curricular when the curriculum is set up.5. Pay attention to andimprove the status of elective courses, improve the freedom and flexibilityin choosing course.6. Draw up the unified national standards of the adapted physicaleducation teacher certification.
