According to statistics, China’s elderly population aged60and above has reached185million. It might be able to reach a peak of483million in2050by the end of2011.China hasbecome the largest countries in the world owning the most elderly population. Nowadays, wehave to face the sharp problem about pension such as octogenarian, no children, disabled elderly.It is worth noting that the empty nester problem is serious. This paper based on the investigationof D village in Changchun city. The major cause is that we carried out the household contractresponsibility system, improved the farmer’s land income, constructed the urbanization at a greatlick. These bought lots of urban and rural population flow. The young rural labor force deviatedfrom their hometown and rural elderly had to face two challenges about pensions and spirituallife. On the other hand, the reality is that rural empty nesters have no working, no retirement age.They can’t get their social security to maintain their basic living. Their living problems arebecoming more and more attached by government and relevant departments. We could say, ruralempty nester problem goes against the concept of humanistic care, hinder the rural prosperityand stability and has a negative influence on the stability of country. This paper systemizes andanalyses the empty nester problem. Our main pension patterns have developed from traditionalfamily pension, social assistance to five pension, favorable treatment pension, retirementpension system, commercial endowment insurance, social endowment insurance and so on.Foreign researches this problem from the social interaction, social behavior, social resources.When individuals need to face difficulties, we should provide material or spiritual help and weshould make the individuals feel concerned or accepted. This paper regards these empty nestersas social vulnerable groups and uses the social support theory as the main research perspectives.This paper adopts the method of literature study, in-depth interviews, case social work methods.It emphasizes to enhance communication, cares about the importance of farmer guidance andput forwards “trinity” pattern. At the same time, social workers should use professionalknowledge to integrate social resources. And they should regard self-reliance as their ownconcept in order to solve the problems.
