Children’s development assessment is based on children education goals and toadapt to the goal,the children’s development education evaluation using the theoryand method of infant body,cognitive,moral and social aspects of the process of thedevelopment value judgement.For adults development-oriented evaluation can helpeducators and parents understand young children’s development condition, for thenext stage to adopt effective education measures to provide the scientific basis. It isthe indispensable education work kindergarten is an important part of educationquality continuously to improve the important means of kindergarten.The thesis analysed the generary situation of education in New Zealand and theoriginal docunments of learning story with document method, and summarise thecore concept and put forward some experience through clarifying the basic frame inorder to offer some refrences for the children’s development assessment in China.Results indict that learning story is a kind of dynamic evaluation model of Earlychildhood education in New Zealand and a kind of structured narrative observationsfor children’s learning behavior in daily environment to show children’s learningthrough documenting continually children’s behavior in the real activity orsituation.This documenting also include some context which children are in and somecumulative snapshots or some written vignettes,then teachers evaluate integrally andcomprehensively children’s learning through qualitative and method of explanation inorder to show children’s integral and continual pictures,maintain complex learningand promote children’s learning.Because of social constructivism and theory andsituational learning theory, the evaluating contents and method of learning story isdifferent form traditional “list” assessment which sum up some knowledge and skillsthat children achieved from a list.Thus the evaluating contents of learning story islearning dispositionwhich include five domains:taking an interest,being involved,persisting with difficulty, communicating with others and taking responsibility.And the assessment methods and procedure is “Four Ds”: describing、documenting、discussing、deciding.At last, according to the problems of children’s development assessment inChina, four inspirations have been advanced: To evaluate children’s learning anddevelopment should set up science views on children and views of education firstly;should assessment combines with curriculum; should be in the real situation; shoulduse effectively the results of assessment to promote children’s learning anddevelopment. Meanwhile, the author point out limitations and future research.
