Assessment of children`s development is an important part of preschool education. Implementing assessment of children`s development effectively can understand young children’s development level,can safeguard the effective realization of the preschool education goals, can promote the kindergarten teachers’ self-reflection and improve their education teaching ability, also can strengthen the communication and interaction between parents and their children. But the fundamental purpose of implementing assessment of children`s development is to promote children’s development.The study adopts self-designed questionnaire and interview outline of assessment of children`s development on the basis of theory research and experts` support to survey 60 different kindergartens randomly selected from municipal districts in Shanghai and randomly select 8 kindergartens to carry out in-depth interview study. According to the survey results,we can understand the current situation of assessment of children`s development in kindergarten: There are individual differences in kindergarten teachers’ understanding of assessment of children`s development and there are inconsistencies between the various factors of the understanding; the kindergarten teachers have some limitations in the purposes of assessment of children`s development. In current, assessment contents of children`s development and index in different kindergartensare almost consistent, but training young teachers of evaluation contents and index is weak; in kindergarten teachers` opinion, classroom teachers、young children and parents should be involved in the assessment of children`s development, One step further,classroom teachers and children should be considered as the subject of assessment, but there is a certain gap between idea and practice; although assessment tool and method of children`s development are varied, kindergarten teachers focus their assessment tool and method on observation recording in practice, which is relatively single; when implementing assessment of children`s development in kindergarten day activity, kindergarten teachers strive to be object as far as possible, but it is almost impossible actually; in kindergarten day activity, there is no balance among daily life activity、games、individualized learning activity、collective teaching activities and other activities in which kindergarten teachers can observe and evaluate children; kindergarten teachers frequently utilize kindergarten day activity to evaluate children, but seldom create situation outside kindergarten day activity to evaluate children.In addition, according to the current status of kindergarten assessment results of children`s development, this study put forward the corresponding suggestion from two aspects of kindergarten teachers understanding ability and practice ability of assessment of children`s development.
