As a comprehensive art symbol, hand puppet blend of education, culture, entertainment and aesthetics values; it is important educational resources. In theory, colorful and vivid hand puppets used in story teaching activities not only attract children’s attention, but also apply an easy way to understand story for the specific image-based thinking children. In addition, children operated hand puppets to play story game mobilize their hands, mouth, eyes and other senses movement. This can promote children’s fingers flexible, as well as the coordinated development of the hands, mouth, eyes and other senses. From these ways, hand puppet should be a good story teaching activities materials. But will the use of the hand puppets in story teaching activities affect the performance of children’s approaches toward learning yet? These questions prompted the emergence of this study.Before the formal study, the actual use of hand puppets in kindergarten story teaching activities was researched. the results showed two main problems:it is not clear of teachers’ understanding about the value of using hand puppets in the story teaching activities; hand puppets in kindergarten story teaching activities had overall lower utilization. These provided background information and related supports to author’s study. In the formal study, the researchers established a credible and feasible research tool, and then randomly extracts the research objects from the children of the same middle shift in a ordinary kindergarten of Hangzhou. According to the class point of order, they were randomly divided into experimental and control group. The same teacher used hand puppets and not used hand puppets in the same story teaching activities. The researchers observed and recorded the performance of children’s approach towards learning in the two cases. Contrasting and summarizing their characteristics and difference explored how using hand puppets impact children’s approach towards learning.The results showed that:the performance of children’s approach towards learning in both cases showed consistency characteristics. In story teaching activities used hand puppets, the performance of children’s curiosity, interest, persistence, attention and participating in the activities of the initiative are significantly better than the others who did not use hand puppets. However, children’s other performance did not show significant differences.By thinking of the research process and analyzing the experimental results, this paper suggested enhancing teachers’ understanding of the value of hand puppets used in story teaching activities, increasing hand puppet resources in the kindergarten in order to provide rich material, selectively using hand puppets and paying attention to methods and strategies when teachers use them.
