English-reading teaching strategy is a hot topic discussed by many scholars and teachers inprimary and middle schools. But most related research is based on different class backgrounds ofnative English speaking countries and China. Researchers rarely focus on domestic local teachersand NESTs(Native English-speaking teachers). Our English teacher team is changing. More andmore NESTs join in this team. Now research on classrooms in native English-speaking countriesand China can’t provide comprehensive information in practice, hindering deep research. It is in this context that the author puts forward a study of English reading teaching strategiesby NESTs and local teachers in primary schools. In order to get a reasonable framework, firstly theresearcher studied existing literature reviews and summarized four dimensions to analyze materials. That is construction strategy、incentive strategy、question strategy and assessment strategy. Thenthe author used such qualitive research methods to get materials as reading teaching logs andclassroom observation of Z and X teachers in D primary school in Guangdong province. In thisresearch, the author tries to answer the following questions:1、What are the English-reading teaching strategies used by Z and X in classrooms? And what arethe characteristics and differences of those strategies?2、How shall we categorize the strategies used by Z and X? What are their connections? The study found: English-reading teaching Strategies used by Z and X show both similarities andalso differences. First, they both used interactive-compensatory approach and communicativeapproach, and this makes the relation between teacher and students harmonious. But Z’s teachingstrategies can be classified as communicative strategies, lively and vivid, While X’s can beclassified into control strategies. Second, Z’s and X’s reading teaching strategies show bigdifferences in the dimension of construction strategy, while crossover in the dimensions ofincentive strategy、question strategy and assessment strategy.
