Based on the facts in China, the article analyzed the current situation, major features,challenges and problems that facing by the basketball clubs in private company, explored potentialbusiness development models for those clubs, in order to find an effective growth path that suitablefor those clubs in this society transition period. Through various methodologies including dataanalysis, questionnaire, experts interview, field investigation, statistics and case studies, theresearch studied private clubs participated in2011-2012and2012-2013CBO Basketball League.The study indicates:1. Basketball is a very popular sport among the mass population.Basketball clubs are growing and expanding these years, however, there are some problems.2.The founding of basketball clubs in private enterprise are impacted by the external factorssuch as the society transition, economics development and the increasing awareness ofexercising and the internal influences such as personal interests of the entrepreneurs,commercial incentives as well as the corporate cultural building.3. Many clubs have littlelaw-based control, lack of good organizational structure and scientific management byprofessionals, operating without a clear guideline on roles and responsibilities, norcompliance of rules and regulations. In addition, those clubs usually funded by single source,have inadequate venues, and are low commercialized.4. Another problems those clubs facinginclude insufficient and lack-of-science training, unsophisticated competition system,competition frequency, scale and skill level yet to enhanced, etc.5. The players and trainersusually are not very skillful, the clubs do not have good recruiting and performancemanagement system.6. Players and trainer compensation and benefit system is notwell-established. Suggestions:1. Strengthen the guidance and supervision of Sportsadministrative departments, providing more social and governmental supports.2. Private clubsto change the way of thinking, complete organizational structure, establish a clear guidelineand run the business in a more professional way;3. Emphasize on talent development,improve recruiting process and enhance compensation and benefits for trainers and players;4. Training in scientific way to increase the training and competition quality, complete trainingand competition system, reinforce competition regulation and surveillance;5. Developpotential markets and explore more funding channels.
