Classroom is the major place for high school students to learn English. Hence, how toimprove students’ learning efficiency in the limited class time is an important task ofEnglish teaching.“A well beginning is half done”. Lead-in link is the first link of Englishcourse teaching. Although the lead-in link accounts for small proportion of the wholeclassroom teaching with a relatively short period of time, it plays an important role instimulating students’ thoughts and improving students’ learning interests. The advantagesand importance of the lead-in links gradually draw teachers’ attention. When the classbegins, students are still in the excitatory state of last class and it is difficult for them toshift their attention to the class consciously. At this point, teachers should design thelead-in link carefully. Thus, students’ attention can be shifted from the excitement beforeclass to the classroom and their desire to learn can be stimulated. Students can also take anactive part in the classroom activities. Successful lead-in links can attract students’attention, stimulate their learning desire and interest, arouse their learning enthusiasm, build the connection between the new knowledge and the old knowledge. In this way, teachers can lay a good foundation for the teaching of new knowledge and improve theclassroom efficiency. In order to know the current state of the English classroom teaching in senior middleschools, the writer has made a survey in Liao Cheng No.4Middle School where he had aninternship on the following questions: the current implementation of the lead-in process;the methods that teachers use in performing the lead-in link and the difficulties in theprocess; students’ and teachers’ attitudes and opinions on the link. Firstly, I tried to get thecurrent implementation and difficulties of the lead-in process in senior middle schoolclassroom teaching. Then I sent questionnaires to teachers and students to know theirattitudes and opinions. Finally I put forward some superficial understanding andsuggestions according to related theory knowledge of statistics, pedagogy and psychology. This paper includes five chapters. In the first chapter, I point out the research background, the objective, the issue and the meaning of the paper. In the second chapter, the theoretical research of the lead-in link at home and abroad is adequately represented. Inchapter three, I state the survey design and survey methods of this paper. In chapter four, Imade a survey of senior one grade in Liao Cheng No.4Middle School where I had aninternship on the current implementation of the lead-in process.
