A school-based curriculum is a course in accord with theeducational philosophy of a specific school which is with greatdiversity for its students to choose from, and it is set by theown research and design of the school, or in collaboration withprofessional researchers, which is based on the systematicalassessment of its students’ needs as well as by making fulluse of the curriculum resources of the local community and theschool. Under the background of new curriculum reform,school-based Chinese curriculum development focuses onimproving students’ Chinese accomplishment and aims atstimulating students’ interest in Chinese culture as well asregional cultures, which is an effective way to inherit thelocal cultures and promote the students’ personality. ShehongSenior High School is a national model high school located inSichuan Province, and its school-based Chinese curriculum hasbeen under the attention and support of its leaders as well asin a wide range of inherent craving for the part of its students.In addition, Chinese teachers in this school are enthusiasticabout Chinese school-based curriculum development, and theschool possesses rich curriculum resources both inside andoutside the school which is available for development. Inrecent years, with the rapid development of school-basedChinese curriculum practices in Shehong Senior High School,school-based Chinese curriculum development has greatlystimulated the students’ inherent desire for language knowledge and carved out a way of professional development forthe teachers, which turns into a showcase of the school’sdistinctive teaching features, and makes a contribution to theexcavation and inheritance of local cultures in Shehong.Although the school-based Chinese curriculum development inShehong Senior High School has made some achievements, it isstill at a preliminary stage and there are still some problems,such as the school’s administration overweighing practicalwork, the teachers’ curriculum development capacity being notenough, the students’ personality being not fully exploited,the forms of school-based Chinese curriculum being single, thecooperation and exchange between the schools being in lack,etc., and all these problems are worth being paid attention toin the future development of school-based Chinese curriculumin Shehong Senior High School. This research takes it as a caseof the school-based Chinese curriculum development practicesin Shehong Senior High School to demonstrate the developmentprocess of school-based Chinese curriculum, and it makes somesuggestions for contemporary school-based Chinese curriculumdevelopment according to the useful experience as well as theexisting problems in the development process of school-basedChinese curriculum in Shehong Senior High School.
