This paper a research on the usage of Putonghua among middleschool students in Dejiang county and the improvement for teachingand learning methods. By analyzing the attitude of the the middleschool students in Dejiang towards Mandarin and Dejiang dialect andcomparing the differences, it can be concluded that middle schoolstudents in Dejiang prefer Dejiang dialect emotionally and speaksmore Dejiang dialect than Mandarin. The author also explores thefactors that limit the middle school students in Dejiang speakingMandarin and discusses the difficulties for them. At last, theauthor proposes some ways of improving the situation of speakingMandarin of the middle school students in Dejiang, which are notonly directed to the students but also the teachers and the schools.There are five parts in this paper.The first part is also the introduction where the authorintroduces the objective and significance of the study and makesa summary of the relevant researches. Then the author introducesDejiang County and some schools there and explains the design ofthe questionnaire and the survey.The second part is Chapter One where the author describes howthe survey is conducted on the attitude of the middle schoolstudents in Dejiang towards Mandarin and how it is spoken by this group of people. This chapter analyzes the questionnaire resultsand obtains the differences of the students’ attitudes towardsMandarin.The third part is Chapter Two, where the author illustrates thefactors poses negative impact on the middle school stuents inDejiang speaking Mandarin and also the difficult points. In thischapter, the author analyzes the influence of local dialect, thelinguistic environment and other factors and compares thedifferences between Dejiang dialect and Mandarin systematically.In part four, also known as Chapter Three, the author proposessome suggetions for the middle school students in Dejiang Countyto better learn and speak Mandarin from three aspects. First, theauthor lists some detailed and practical ways of learning Mandarinto the students, targeted on the difficult points especially forpeople in Dejiang. Seond, the author gives some recommendations tothe teachers who have significant influence on the students inspeaking Mandarin. Third, the author proposes suggestions to theschools which are important places to promote the speaking ofMandarin.Part five is the conclusion, where the author summarizes thecontents above and points out some limits of the study and whereshe is going with the study in the future.
