Grammar is an important part of language learning. How to teach grammar effectively has always been the focus of language studies. The traditional grammar teaching focuses mainly on teachers, which means that teachers dominate the class by teaching grammar knowledge and the students mainly listening to the teachers passively and take note in class. What’s worse, some teachers pay too much attention to the explanation of grammar knowledge, as a result of which, students are trapped in the rules of grammar and can’t express themselves in fluent English with high marks. Later, people gradually realize that the traditional grammar teaching cannot provide students with authentic context and opportunities to communicate with language. With the introduction and popularization of the communicative teaching method, more and more attention is paid to learners’ability to use language and neglect the systematic learning of grammar knowledge in teaching. Then, the communicative teaching method has become the mainstream. As a result, students attach less importance to grammar learning and don’t get grammar systematically.In the process of the implementation and improvement of the new curriculum standard, the task-based teaching mode has been more and more popular in china. Compared with the research of task-based approach in other aspects, the application and practice of task-based approach to English grammar teaching in senior high school is less, which is because the traditional grammar teaching method has a deep and long-term influence on English teaching. As a new teaching mode, whether the task-based approach can be successfully applied to grammar teaching depends on the change of ideas and the maturation of teaching methods and techniques.This paper points out that there are both advantages and disadvantages of any kind of teaching methods. In view of the current situation, task-based teaching mode is considered to be an effective approach in grammar teaching. By studying the related theories and analyzing the data of questionnaires and grammar tests, this paper tries to test the effect of task-based teaching approach in English grammar teaching in senior high school. The research has shown that task-based teaching approach is feasible, because this approach can motivate the students and therefore improve their performance in grammar.In spite of the above-mentioned advantages, teachers should focus on the following aspects while using this approach:designing tasks with special care; supervising the students’task in class; making appropriate adjustment of task in accordance with the level of the students. Under the background of New Curriculum Reform, this research can be helpful in improving effectiveness of grammar teaching and foster students’ comprehensive abilities to some certain degree.
