Impact Of Social Work Education On Students’ Development

Social work is a practice of helping others, and the core is " helping people to help themselves."It follows the value of self-reliance, Use professional methods such as case, group, community methods to help organizations and others develop their potentials, coordinate social relations, solve and prevent social problems.As a student studying social work, firstly he or she has to upgrade their professional level and then has the ability to help others. The process of social workers helping others is also a process of self-growth and self-improvement. So what kinds of self-development have they gotten? This article studies on the issue.In this paper, the author used qualitative research methods, and conducted in-depth interviews of12social work students in University of S, at present, the effect of social work professional education on students has come out. This research found the following three aspects:(1) In S University, impact of social work education in practice course on enhancing the overall quality of students is relatively large;(2) Students who study social work both in their undergraduate and graduate period have solid social work foundation so as to have a good engagement and promotion in their graduate period. What’s more, they have higher recognition of social work and have a deeper influence to own specialized skills and practical ability.(3) After receiving social work professional education different students have different growth and development. From both positive and negative impacts, this paper analyzes the factors of social work education’s effects on student development. Outcome showed that family upbringing, education, experience, social environment and personal character have a certain degree of influence on professional learning. Finally, this paper aims to put forward some useful suggestions from macro,meso and micro levels.This research provides a possibility of understanding influence of social work professional education on students’ development and expectations of students to social work education.This contributes to improving the level of education of social work profession and strengthening construction of social work personnel.As a social work student, the author conducted in-depth interview of social work students from S University and during this process, an analysis of impacts of social work education on students was made. From starting point of students’development, this paper focused on social work education and whether it could achieve self-help. Finally, on the basis of above study, this paper aims to explore the way of strengthening and prompting the impact of social work education on students.
