There are many literature based on the analysis and comparison of geography textbook in the geographical education area, but mostly focused on a certain period of time, barely focused on the overall research of the high school geography textbook in the past over30years since our country’s reform and opening-up. This paper discusses the surface and deep system’s periodic characteristics from the perspective of system structure in the range of over30years.This paper includes three parts:the introduction, the body and the conclusion. The main content can be summarized as follows:Introduction:present the cause and significance of the research, analyze the present situation of relative area, summarize the methods used in the paper and clarify the question studied.Chapter one, textbook’s background:conclude the factors influencing China’s high school geography textbook during the past over30years, analyze the specific influence of various factors like the social development, political system, scientific and technological progress and education innovation on high school geography textbooks from the social and political background, cultural、science and technology background and the education development background.Chapter two to four:divide the past over30years into three stages which is year1978to1985, year1986to2000and year2001till now and analyze the structure system of high school geography textbook respectively. First of all, introduce high school geography textbook’s different basis and foundation and summarize the general situation of the high school geography textbook of different stages. Secondly, introduce the basic information, structure system and main contents of the selected representative high school geography textbook. Finally, analyze the periodic characteristics from the surface and deep system’s perspective. The surface system of geography textbook include the text system, the image system and the practice system, while the deep system include the depth of knowledge, the breadth of the knowledge and the expression.Chapter five, the development of high school geography textbook’s structure system since reform and opening up:summarize the overall trend of high school geography textbook’s development during the past over30years from the surface and deep system’s perspective.Chapter six, conclusion and expectation:summarize the general characteristics of the high school geography textbooks of three stages respectively, the change of the high school geography textbooks and assume the changes in future high school geography textbook’s compilation.
