China is a country with most senior citizens in the world. According to UN standard, a country is classified as "aging society" with7%of the population over65years old. By the time of the sixth census in2010, there had been over120million citizens over65in China, accounting for8.87%of the whole population. It is anticipated that the number will break310million in2040. With more seniors, old-age security has become a major topic in social work study since1980s. Especially in the countryside where the old takes up80%of the senior population, some are not able to get their children’s support in effect, suffering from mental attack and physical poverty, even in terms of basic living conditions. As a result, right protection for the old has become a social problem to a village, which should not be neglected. Meantime, siblings of the younger generation have disputes and make enemies over the issue of supporting their parents."Raising children for old age" and "more children meaning more fortune" have ironically become wild wishes. The disputes over rural family support have become an important factor that affects social stability and harmony in the countryside, and a major practical topic to be broken through rural social construction.Starting from present situation of the support of rural senior citizens home and abroad, this paper analyzes the characteristics, models and directions of this topic, then proposes a research proposition of settling the disputes over rural family support with social work model. To make a deep exploration, the writer of this paper went into H Village, S City of Jilin Province, and conducted a thorough survey on the age distribution of seniors, educational background, health condition, source of income, marital status and retirement backgrounds through visiting the locals, sending questionnaires and looking up reference materials. The research is narrowed down to three typical families involved in support disputes and the study focuses on aspects of employment, income, housing, health condition and family expenditure. On the basis of these, the researcher makes a systematic conclusion on the crux and causes of the disputes and under the working mentality of helping people to help themselves, carries out social work intervention project entitled "Harmonious Family" in use of two methods:household social work and case social work. The project consists of five theme phases:Phase1, I am one of you; Phase2, we are a family; Phase3, our common dream; Phase4, we will have a better future; Phase5, stories around us. As a social worker, the researcher effectively settles the disputes of the families under the study with the method of social work intervention on the basis of their differences, and takes down working records in detail. In light of the whole process of the study, the paper makes conclusion and assessment on the intervention effect, provides exposition for the problems in the work, offers comments and suggestions for settlement of rural family support disputes, and proposes vision for the way of solving cases of the same kind. It is hoped that the seniors will enjoy a carefree and healthy life in the near future.
