Classical poetry is one of the waves in China’s long cultural history and isa green flower in literature garden. Especially the classical poetry in the high schooltextbooks, despite years of big waves’ washing, it is still enduring, leaving beautifulwords with never-old legends.The appreciation of ancient poetry is always the difficulty of Chinese teachingin high schools, and it is always the difficult test point in the college entranceexamination in Chinese. Appreciation of ancient poetry, like a rose with thorns, caneasily be picked by few students. What makes the Chinese ancient poetryappreciation teaching in trouble? Under the background of the new curriculum reform,the ratio of ancient poetry has increased significantly. Almost every book has a specialpoetry unit; besides, the test of the appreciation of ancient poetry in the collegeentrance examination is in the form of subjective topics, which has undoubtedlyincreased the difficulty of poetry appreciation teaching. What on earth are theobstacles of ancient poetry appreciation for senior middle school students? How canwe break through the barrier, so that the students’ ability of appreciation will bepromoted on the whole? This paper will try to be based on the specificrequirements of the Chinese ancient poetry appreciation for the students of highschools, that is, appreciation from the poetry image of the works, language and skillsto the ideological content of the works and the author’s attitude. The article willanalyze the forming factors of the ability to appreciate ancient poetry, namely, readingcomprehension, imagination and language expression ability. Combined with themany barriers of allusions, imagery, artistic conception, artistic techniques and otheraspects of students in the Chinese ancient poetry appreciation, this article will alsoexplore the countermeasures to break through these barriers. By analyzing theobstacles in high school ancient poetry appreciation under the background of the newcurriculum reform and the shortcomings in teaching, learning from others’ alreadyexisting research results, and combing her own teaching practice, the author is tryingto find a new way.
