The Chinese language class has been undergoing an unprecedented transformation in high school, since new curriculum reform was officially launched in2003. And the offer of selective courses has gained highly attention from all parts of the society. In the process of new curriculum reform, teacher becomes the main force for developing selective course. Chinese selective textbook is not only the carrier of teaching content but also an importantly teaching tool. The selective textbook therefore has a huge influence on the quality and efficiency of selective course. For teacher, the familiar teaching requirements have been changed; the structure of textbook has been altered; and the content has been updated. Consequently, a series of issues are merged and is really a challenge for the teachers who are working in the frontline.Issues are that if teacher is able to understand and use the textbook creatively; to take a good advantage of it; to teach flexibly; and achieve the teaching target, etc. As a result, the study on usage of selective textbooks is imperative. Taking a look at all the Chinese selective textbooks in high school, Appreciation of Chinese ancient poetry and prose is really an important module in poetry&prose series courses. The aims of offering this course are at improving student’s ability to appreciate, cultivating their sentiment, enhancing their literary attainment and enrich their mental world. The research on this module helps the user to understand textbooks better, also enlightens teacher how to make the most use of it. It’s good for pushing Chinese selective textbook reform as well.This research takes12high-school Chinese teachers,from X high school in Liangjiang district, Y high school in Liangping County,as object. The study focuses on the usage of selective textbooks by data-collecting, classroom-observation, interview etc. It also proposes how to use the selective books. This paper mainly divided into five parts as following.Part I. Introduction, including analysis of choosing this topic, significance of this study, idea and methods, also the related references.Part II. Analysis on Chinese ancient poetry and prose. Mainly from two aspects: first, the base of composing this textbook. It’s mainly based on curriculum standard, students’mental level and the requirements on ancient poetry study for high-school students. Second one is idea and structure deduction, which focuses on its framework, analysis of picking article, design of practice, etc.Part III. Survey on the service condition of this textbook. First, re-design the judge criteria of service condition. Then the survey is processed from following three parts: teacher’s view on curriculum standard, status of selective course, content and structure of this textbook; the use of articles, practice and illustration; the reflection and puzzle on it.Part IV. Analysis on the factors affecting the use of this book. Teacher, textbook and school are the main objects. Also the college entrance guidance and teacher training are taken into consideration.Part V. Bring up the proposals aiming at improving the use of textbook in teaching, optimizing the construction of Chinese selective textbook in high school and driving the Chinese selective course reform forward.
