Direct admission system, in which part of grade9students will be admitted tohigh school without entrance examination, is a new class management mode. Studentsselected for ZhiShengBan must show excellent performance in all subjects in theirifrst two years (Grade7&8). The emergence of this enrollment system is mainly inorder to help school recruit high quality students,effectively preventing "robbingstudents" by other schools. ZhiShengBan transition period usually refers the one whenother students who will take the entrance examination are reviewing and preparing forthe exam. This period is about1-2months before graduation. How to make full use ofthis precious time and how to improve students’ qualities so that they are ready forhigh school therefore become an urgent problem for both teachers and the school.The author studied core issues, for example, education value, teaching methods,learning view, and teaching contents for transition class. From the perspective of thecourse on education value, experimental classes can improve students’ inner qualityand help them transit from superficial learning by pure memory to thoughtful learningby problem solving. It can also bring endless fun by active exploration and"experimental success. The ideas "teaching advocated by Dewey,"learning by doin"gby the Chinese educator tao xingzhi,and metacognitive theory of constructivismemphasized that students should, in the process of learning, constantly reflect on theirbehavior and thoughts, and actively learn. Teachers should acknowledgestudent-centered teaching style, fully stimulate students’ motivation to achieve thebest teaching effect. Based on these, the author determined that theexperiment-centered teaching, complemented by theory teaching is the best choice forZhiShengBan transition. Considering the school’s hardware equipment, the students’ cognitive level, andthe experimental types, the author selected the production of "lotion","lipstick","leaf-made bookmark","bean curd","hand-made soap",ifve chemical products, asteaching contents. The experimental class is fully student centered: starting fromexperimental design to set up of experimental equipment and conduction ofexperiment, to completion and improvement of experiment report, students wereactively involved in the whole process, with the guidance of the teacher. Formativeassessment, complemented by summative assessment, was adopted to evaluate,studentsperformance. Through questionnaire survey, interviews, combined withpersonal observations, I concluded that such experimental teaching has a very goodteaching consequence, which has a lasting good effect, and it also reduces theteachers’ working time*Although the overall look of this study is a success, some shortcomings still exist,such as that the experiment type is too single.
