In recent years, the number of college students keeps continuouslygrowing with enrollment increase of colleges and universities. As a result,newcomers in these colleges and universities encounter numerous difficultiesin adapting to their academic life. As the period of academic life is animportant stage for the formation of one’s value and world view, whether thenewcomers can adapt to their academic life and improve their social skills isof great significance for them to establish complete characters and adapt tosocial activities. The newcomers will be confronted with numerousdifficulties in this period, for instance, inadaptability to the new environment,confusion in professional learning, obstacles in interpersonal communicationand failure in life independency. The newcomers need to bravely face andsettle these challenges and stresses. For the newcomers’ difficulties,universities and colleagues still stay at a traditional mode with respect to theentrance education, attaching importance only to systems and disciplines.However, the education on psychological adjustment, learning guidance andother aspects is insufficient or even unavailable. With respect to value idea,ethical principle and method strategy, a good makeup can be achieved indisadvantages of universities and colleagues in the entrance education fornewcomers by using the social work profession. Therefore, it is of certainspecial advantages for the newcomers in adapting the new life with socialworks.This paper takes the students in the2013social work class in College ofSociology&Folklore Inner Mongolia Normal University as research subjects,understanding their entrance adaption conditions and obtaining relevant materials of their overall conditions through individual interviewing of thenewcomers. Specific plans of group activity are designed and group activitiesare carried out based on relevant responses. Upon completion of the activities,a questionnaire survey is made to investigate effects of group activities, andthe effects of group activities are evaluated by combining such methods asleader observation evaluation, record evaluation in the group work processand group member attendance rate evaluation. According to the evaluationresults, solutions are proposed to the newcomers’ adapting difficulties,providing practical reference to group works of the university.In the main core of the paper, the author mainly recorded the developingcircumstance of the freshmen growth group and evaluated the results of theactivity. Through the practice has proved, the freshmen growth group can helpnew comers solve the aspects of the enrollment adaptation, so, the group workshould be used in the job of the university freshmen work to help thefreshmen adapt to the college life as soon as possible.
